JobSearch 'Stalling'?

July 8, 2026

A job search can stall for lots of reasons. But there are moments where #momentum either builds or dies.

This one's for job hunters who want to stay in control. And for anyone who partners with and supports them

Almost everyone who's job hunted for any length of time has felt it: applications go out, interviews happen, due diligence is completed, and then, nothing. The process simply stalls. It happens more often than anyone would like, and it can feel entirely out of your hands.

Think about the momentum shifts you see in a sports match. A team can spend twenty minutes under pressure, barely holding on, and then win a single ball or challenge, and suddenly the entire game changes. That's momentum, and it's rarely accidental. It's created by small, decisive moments.

The same thing is true in a job search, and the good news is that you can create those moments yourself. An interview that goes exceptionally well because you prepared more thoroughly than anyone else in the process. A prompt, well-written email confirming genuine interest in the role straight after the interview. References or certificates delivered the moment they're requested, not days later. An employment contract, reviewed and signed quickly once due diligence is done.

None of this means the outcome is entirely in your hands. Job hunting is a team effort. A capable recruitment consultant can make the right call or push the right advice to a client at the right time. An employer that recognises strong talent needs to move fast enough not to lose it. Every part of the process depends on more than one player doing their part.

Whatever role you're playing in that process right now, the lever you can pull is speed and preparation on your side of the table. You can't control every part of the outcome, but you can absolutely control whether you're the reason the process stalls, or the reason it moves.
